Certification & Accreditation Administration Updates Testing Methods for China RoHS

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China published the approved "Measures for Administration on the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical Appliances and Electronic Products", also known as China RoHS and was implemented on July 1, 2016.

On January 25, 2024, China's Certification and Accreditation Administration announced that the standards of testing method for the qualification assessment of the restriction on the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products will be updated.

The reason for such action is to:

  1. Better align with international standards for the detection of harmful substances in electrical and electronic products
  2. Facilitate the smooth operation of the industry supply chain
  3. Promote trade facilitation
It has been decided to adjust the standards of testing method for the qualification assessment of the restriction on the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products from GB/T 26125 "Electrical and electronic products — Determination of six regulated substances:

  Lead                            •  Hexavalent chromium
  Mercury                     •  Polybrominated biphenyls
  Cadmium                    Polybrominated diphenyl ethers


to a series of standards:

  GB/T 39560.1             GB/T 39560.2               GB/T 39560.301
  GB/T 39560.4             GB/T 39560.5               GB/T 39560.6
  GB/T 39560.701        GB/T 39560.702    


comprising a total of eight standards for the determination of certain substances in electronic and electrical products (hereinafter referred to as the GB/T 39560 series standards). The relevant requirements are hereby announced as follows:
  1. Starting from March 1, 2024: the testing methods for the qualification assessment of the restriction on the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products shall be carried out in accordance with the GB/T 39560 series standards.
  2. Before March 1, 2024: for those who have completed the qualification assessment according to GB/T 26125, the transition to the new standards will be accomplished through processes such as certificate renewal and product changes.
  3. Before March 1, 2024: for products that have already been manufactured or imported, there is no need to undergo standard conversion.
