The Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA) aims to protect and manage the environment and promote resource conservation. The scope of EPMA also includes the control of Hazardous Substances (HS), as such substances may cause large-scale disasters, be highly toxic, lead to pollution, and generate difficult-to-dispose toxic waste. Therefore, the National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore regulates environmentally hazardous substances according to EPMA.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore controls environmentally hazardous substances under EPMA. The Act was passed on February 11, 1999, and came into effect on April 1, 1999.
EPMA hazardous substance control applies to chemicals listed as hazardous substances and finished products containing hazardous substances. Except for specific exemptions, most products must comply with EPMA hazardous substance control requirements.
Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA) Section 22-1 stipulates that no person shall import, manufacture, possess for sale, or sell any hazardous substance or products containing hazardous substances unless they hold a permit/license granted by the competent authority for this purpose.
List of Controlled Hazardous Substances: Hazardous substances listed in Part I of Schedule 2 of EPMA (approximately 500 substances).
Based on the hazardous substance list in Part I of Schedule 2 of EPMA (approximately 500 substances), SGS provides high-risk screening tests according to different material classifications in products and issues high-risk screening reports based on test results.
