What are the key metrics included in Ecodesign and Energy Labeling?

1.1 The Ecodesign key metrics are included below:
  • Spare Parts Availability Period: Suppliers must continuously provide critical spare parts (including batteries, display panels, camera modules, charging ports, etc.) for at least 7 years after the product model is no longer placed on the EU market.
  • Delivery Time for Spare Parts: It must be ensured that spare parts are delivered within 5 working days after receiving an order.
  • Information Transparency: Detailed disassembly instructions, repair manuals, and troubleshooting information must be made publicly available to general consumers and professional repairers.
  • Cycle Life Threshold: If the product is designed such that general consumers cannot replace the battery themselves and it requires replacement by professional repairers, the built-in battery must undergo strict testing. After experiencing a minimum of 500/1,000 full charge-discharge cycles, it must still retain at least 83%/80% of its rated capacity, respectively.
  • Removable Design: If the product is designed so that general consumers can easily and safely replace the battery themselves using commercially available basic tools, the battery must still retain at least 80% of its rated capacity after experiencing a minimum of 800 full charge-discharge cycles.
  • Drop Resistance: The product must pass standardized free-fall tests, enduring multiple drops from a specified height without a protective case and without any loss of functionality.
  • The display panel and screen area must meet the Mohs hardness scratch resistance standard specified by the regulation
  • Ingress Protection (IP): The product must be capable of resisting dust and liquid ingress, meeting the IP dust and water resistance ratings specified by the regulation depending on the product design.
  • Long-Term Update Commitment: Manufacturers must guarantee the provision of free operating system (OS) version upgrades and security patch updates for at least 5 years, starting from the last date the product is placed on the EU market.
  • Performance Protection Clause: Software behaviors constituting "planned obsolescence" are expressly prohibited; software updates must not maliciously degrade hardware operating performance or shorten battery life.
  • Critical Raw Material (CRM) Declaration: If the product contains specific proportions of critical raw materials (e.g., cobalt, rubidium, gold, etc.), the content must be clearly indicated and declared to facilitate resource recovery upon disposal.
  • Plastic and Metal Recyclability: The regulation mandates that products must be designed to facilitate disassembly, and requires the evaluation and documentation of the overall product's "recyclability".

  • EU required specific mobile devices should be published the fixed Energy Labeling on product package or sales page for supporting consumers choose more efficiency, durable product, and corporate the EU Regulation of Circularity Economy and Ecodesign.
  • Suppliers / Enterprises will face the risk of being banned and delisted from the EU market if they fail to provide compliant Label and technical documentation.

  • Physical & Online sales:The energy class and label must be clearly displayed on product packaging, in physical retail stores, on online shopping pages, and in any visual advertisements to ensure transparency of product information and standards.
